The Problem
According to the National Institutes of Health, influenza and influenza-like-illnesses can lead to over 100 million lost workdays per year. In order to prevent or mitigate the spread of illness within their teams, organizations need guidelines on to help employees determine when it is not safe or prudent to report to work. This need became abundantly clear during and after the initial waves of the Covid-19 pandemic. Organizations needed to provide employees guidance and training on when they should stay home from work.
The Solution & Process
After consulting with local public health and human resources, the organization developed a flow chart tool that provided employees with clear guidance on when they should stay home if they were ill or exposed to an ill person. The organization decided to take things one step further and assess how well employees understood the tool and could apply it to real-life situations. This eLearning module was created and delivered for this purpose. Delivering this module and monitoring completion also helped the organization track which of their employees had reviewed the accompanying flow chart and demonstrated understanding.
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator, Articulate Storyline, Miro
The Result
Leaders were able to quickly determine which employees did not review the flow chart and/or did not fully understand this guidance. These employees could be provided with further information to ensure they understand organization policy and were able to help keep their colleagues healthy.
